Dear Sunnyside Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 school year! My name is Mrs. Susie Dollbaum and I am delighted to be the new principal at Sunnyside Elementary School. I come to you from Barker Elementary where I was the principal for five years. My experiences at Barker and with the Garden Grove Unified School District have taught me that it takes a strong community of people working together to ensure student success for all. It is wonderful to be a part of a district that has strong expectations and tremendous support to ensure that all students achieve academically.

It is truly a privilege for me to be awarded the opportunity to work at a Blue Ribbon school. Sunnyside has an outstanding reputation for student excellence and strong parental and community support. So much can be achieved through the combined efforts of a dedicated group of parents, students, teachers, and support staff working together on behalf of the students we all serve. I would like to congratulate all of you on the newest academic success achieved through the STAR testing program that took place last spring. You will be proud to know that Sunnyside’s Academic Performance Index (API) increased by 19 points to 908. That score is truly commendable and indicative of the value placed on the education of students. I am excited to be a part of this awesome team that puts students and their learning first.

This year at Sunnyside we will continue our focus on instruction. Student engagement is essential to ensuring that all students are active in the learning processes. Knowing each student and helping each individual reach his/her full potential is our goal for strong student success and high academic achievement.

I look forward to meeting and getting to know all of our students and their families. Please look for me and introduce yourself during our Back to School events. I would like to provide regular opportunities to meet with Sunnyside parents in order to discuss relevant topics to our school and to become better acquainted. I have planned our first “Pastries with Parents” for Friday September 23rd at 8:30. I hope to see many of you there.
