Jordan Secondary Learning Center serves approximately 64 severely handicapped students with a combination of disabilities including developmental delays, severe orthopedic impairments, communication disorders, health impairments, and/or adaptive behavior deficits. Students range in age from 13 to 22. It is one of 70 schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District and serves students from the cities of Garden Grove, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana, Stanton, and Westminster. Jordan Secondary Learning Center is a vocationally focused school. The core curriculum is taught by a departmentalized system. The program emphasizes improving, increasing, and retaining vocational, social, and communication skills, as well as academic and daily living skills. Vocational placement, CBI (community based instruction), and inclusion with peers are all important parts of the program. The ethnic distribution of the student body is: American Indian, 0%; Asian, 25.0%; Hispanic, 46.9%; Black, 4.7%; White, 23.4%. Strong leadership is essential in a quality school, and is provided at Jordan Secondary Learning Center by Principal Roberta Leek and other members of the school leadership team. Six teachers and 10 instructional aides are assigned to Jordan Secondary Learning Center.
