Excerpts from one of Elton’s letters to us*

"Greetings... ,

I am writing back to you with a heart full of joy and pure laughter to say on behalf of my platoon, Thank You. First for all you have done to accomplish such a timely care package. The arrival of it greeted me from a very hot day of guard duty at the entrance to "..."one of Saddam Hussein’s former palaces" …"The first word out of my mouth was WOW! Or ((Hijole). Not expecting such a large package or mail since I have not received any personal mail for about a two-week period now. Secondly, for the overwhelming support that you and all the other teachers at Heritage Elementary along with the students who all are just outstanding in our eyes (especially for those in my platoon who never knew that California has early elementary kids on computers and their states don’t have those programs). I say just for all of us, we would make the personal sacrifices we are making now just for you at Heritage after all we take the same pledge as you and the children.  “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all” For this we will (today and always) lay our lives on the alters of Freedom to preserve our way of life… we are glad to know that every day here ensures when you rise in the morning that you may be able to enjoy the freedoms of the GREAT United States of America. We will keep you in our prayers as you keep us in yours. We say thanks again to you and the following teacher’s classes- (forgive me if I forgot anyone): Mrs. Wilkerson, Mrs. Carlos, Mrs. Houtz and Ms. McNally’s kindergarteners, Mrs. Elattar, Ms. Allard, Mrs. Hansen, and Mrs. Dillard’s 3rd graders. Classes, you all may never know the impact Heritage Elementary School has made upon people from all around the Continental USA. "
