Rene Margritte - February 2010

Garden Park Elementary School students were recently introduced to the Belgian artist named Rene Margritte.  Known as a contemporary of M. C. Escher, Rene Margritte delighted himself in using his art to disorientate the mind of his audience.  Many of his art pieces have real life objects in unreal settings.  You can see Mr. Margritte's influence on advertising on a regular basis.

In February, Margritte's most famous art pieces were included in an intriguing slide and story assembly.  This introductory assembly inspired all of our students to create their own surrealist, yet mind-blowing landscape. Utilizing Mr. Margritte's method of placing familular objects (i.e. clouds, walls, and unexplained round objects) in out-of-context places, our students created their own implausible dreamscape.

Pictured below you will find a small sample of the many dreamscapes our Garden Park Geckos created modeling after the this influential artist, Rene Margritte.
