Date: Immediate Students to Recreate Life in Early California Mission Students from Newhope Elementary School in Santa Ana, part of the Garden Grove Unified School District will transform their classroom history lessons into hands-on experiences by recreating life in an early California mission on Thursday, May 13. The fourth-graders will explore an important period of the Golden State’s past in outdoor ‘Mission Day’ activities from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley (on the east side of the park near the pond). With the assistance of teachers and parent volunteers, the students will rotate through activity stations to weave baskets and mats, create nature art, play games of Native Americans, and craft mission bells and candles.
