Los Amigos High Student Named Nat. Merit Scholarship Finalist

Diane Vo, a senior at Los Amigos High School in the Garden Grove Unified School District, has qualified as a finalist in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship competition.

As a finalist, the 17-year-old Santa Ana resident is representative of the top half of one percent of the nation’s high school seniors. Approximately 15,000 students nationwide were named finalists among 1.3 million who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, the scholarship program’s qualifying examination.

Finalists must have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, score high on the SAT, and write an essay about scholastic accomplishments, school and community activities, and educational plans and goals.
Diane maintains an exemplary scholastic record at Los Amigos; and she has completed or is enrolled in the school’s most rigorous academic classes, including taking five Advanced Placement courses this semester. Diane also completed six college classes in her spare time, and she recorded a perfect 800 on a SAT II math subjects test. Along with her challenging schoolwork, she participates in Mock Trial, Knowledge Bowl, and the debate team.

After graduation, she is hopeful of attending the University of the Pacific or UC Berkeley to study for a career in dentistry.
