Los Amigos High School Senior Named Nat. Merit Scholar

Diane Vo, a senior at Los Amigos High School (Fountain Valley) in the Garden Grove Unified School District, is the winner of a prestigious National Merit Scholarship for 2004. Her corporate-sponsored scholarship, underwritten by the Parker Hannifin Foundation, is for $1,500 and is renewable for up to four years.

As a scholarship recipient, the 18-year-old Santa Ana resident is representative of the top quarter of one percent of the nation’s high school seniors. Approximately 15,000 students nationwide were named finalists among 1.3 million who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, the scholarship program’s qualifying examination. From the pool of finalists, some 8,000 will be designated merit scholars for the current school year, dividing $33 million for college undergraduate study.

Scholarship recipients must also have an outstanding academic history, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, score high on the SAT, and write an essay about scholastic accomplishments, school and community activities, and educational plans and goals.

Diane maintains an exemplary scholastic record at Los Amigos, and she recorded a perfect 800 on a SAT II math subjects test. Along with her challenging schoolwork, she participates in Mock Trial, Knowledge Bowl, and the debate team.

After graduation she will attend UCLA to study bio-chemistry for a career in dentistry.
