GGUSD Receives New Award for Improving Student Achievement

The Garden Grove Unified School District is among six public school districts chosen this week for the All Kids, All Stars Awards presented by The Education Trust-West, an Oakland-based independent education research and advocacy organization. This first annual award recognizes California districts that are raising achievement while closing performance gaps for poor and minority children.

GGUSD representatives accepted the honor February 22 at The Education Trust-West conference in San Diego along with Fontana, Long Beach, Madera, San Diego, and San Jose unified school districts. Instructional leaders from the high-performing districts were invited to the three-day education symposium to share best practices and success stories that contribute to improved learning.

The Education Trust-West is an affiliate of the The Education Trust based in Washington, D.C. Last October, the organization issued a report on Latino achievement which identified the GGUSD for its academic successes. A companion presentation to the study showed the 20-percent increase over two years in the number of Latino elementary school students in the district meeting or exceeding state math standards.
