Date: Immediate Allen, Excelsior, and Carrillo Elementary Schools Nominated as Cal. Distinguished Schools Allen, Excelsior, and Carrillo elementary schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District have been nominated for the prestigious California Distinguished School award for 2004. Rosita Elementary School was named an ‘honorable mention’ school. The nominees are among 33 schools in Orange County and 288 statewide whose applications were chosen by the state Department of Education based on overall school quality, test scores, and growth on state and federal performance measures. Judges from the Orange County and California departments of education will visit the schools to validate program quality before the winners are announced on April 20. Distinguished Schools represent approximately five percent of California’s public schools.
