2004-05 Student Attendance Options Detailed

Printed information explaining student attendance options for the 2004-05 school year in the Garden Grove Unified School District is available in all school offices, the district Education Center, and from the “For Parents” link on the district website at www.ggusd.k12.ca.us.

Federal law allows parents with children attending a program improvement school the opportunity to apply for a transfer to a non-program improvement school. Priority is given to low-income, low-achieving students. Specific schools in the GGUSD have been designated to accommodate program improvement transfers.

Friday, Feb. 27, is the deadline for parents to submit requests for Program Improvement transfers. Transfer requests are submitted to the district Child Welfare and Attendance Office at the Education Center, 10331 Stanford Ave., Garden Grove.

State law allows parents to request, through the Parental Choice transfer option, which GGUSD schools their children will attend next September, subject to space availability and other conditions. A student in the district may attend any district school provided there is space and that neighborhood children are not displaced. When the number of requests exceeds the available space at a school, a random drawing will be conducted for placing applicants on a priority waiting list.

Parental Choice transfer requests will be accepted from March 1 through March 31 in the Child Welfare and Attendance Office.
Student transfers for specific instructional programs will be accepted during March and April. Transfer requests on such grounds will be processed when space is available in the program or school requested.

Beginning May 3, the district will accept new transfer application requests for such reasons as child care and parent employment location. Applications submitted by May 14 will be afforded an equal opportunity of selection, regardless of their date of receipt. Applications submitted after May 14 will be placed on a waiting list in the order received unless there is available space.

For more information contact your local school or the district Child Welfare and Attendance Office, 714-663-6391.
