Public Information - Press ReleaseRelease
Date: Immediate Adult Ed. Students Bring Holiday Cheer to Local Seniors and Children This years holiday season will be a little brighter for residents of a Garden Grove senior citizen care facility and children at Ronald McDonald House due to the generosity and compassion of students from both adult education campuses in the Garden Grove Unified School District. At Lincoln Education Center, more than 350 adult ESL students are creating special greeting cards and messages for frail and disabled residents of nearby Acacia Adult Day Services in Garden Grove (11391 Acacia Parkway). On behalf of all LEC students, teacher Gail Duckworth and her 38 pupils will deliver the cards, distribute candy canes, and entertain the residents with holiday caroling on Friday, Dec. 12, 10 a.m. to noon. Any remaining cards from Acacia Adult Center will be given to patients undergoing treatment at The Oncology Center in Orange. Duckworth initiated the holiday card program three years ago following her successful battle with breast cancer, explaining the get-well cards she received from students served as an inspiration during her personal struggle. Meanwhile at Chapman-Hettinga Education Center, adult high school diploma students of teacher Janet Schmidt are making colorful snowmen door hangers and Christmas tree centerpieces for youngsters at Ronald McDonald House in Orange. The handmade crafts will be delivered the week before Christmas.
