GGUSD Schools to Join President George W. Bush in Synchronized Pledge of Allegiance - Tuesday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m.

Schools throughout the Garden Grove Unified School District will express their unity as students and employees observe Constitution Day with a synchronized Pledge of Allegiance and reciting the Preamble to the Constitution with President George W. Bush on Wednesday, Sept 17, 11 a.m. (Pacific Time).

The President and U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige invited America’s schoolchildren to take part in Pledge Across America as a celebration of freedom and a renewal of American citizenship.

Most GGUSD schools will delay the regular morning flag salute to join with the President and young people from across America, while other schools are scheduling additional patriotic exercises with the synchronized Pledge of Allegiance.

Students at Stanley Elementary School, for example, will gather in front of the campus to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing a patriotic song. At Patton Elementary School, all classes, each with an American flag, will meet outdoors by the multi-purpose room were one wall is painted with a large U.S. flag and the “Patton Patriots” school logo. After the pledge, winning entries will be read from the ‘Why I am Proud to be an American’ essay contest.

Orange County-based Celebration USA is providing every public school in the county with free music CDs of patriotic songs to promote Pledge Across America. The non-profit organization initiated the first Pledge Across America in October 2001, just weeks after the September 11 terrorist attacks.
