Ensure School Success...Don't Miss Class

The Garden Grove Unified School District reminds parents of their critical role in ensuring a child's classroom success by making sure their son or daughter attends school every day. It is not only an important parental responsibility, it is the law.

California school districts receive compensation from the state only for the actual time students are in school. There is no funding reimbursement for excused absences.
Excused absences are only granted due to illness or quarantine for medical or dental services, to attend the funeral of an immediate family member, exclusion from school due to lack of immunizations, or for jury duty (applies to students at least 18 years old).

Parents are urged to make every effort to send their children to school every day and on time. Even when a student will miss class for a routine medical appointment, he or she should attend school for as much of the day as possible.

Lost classroom hours mean lost opportunities for knowledge. It also means reduced revenues from the state to operate and maintain important learning programs for students.

It is vital for students to understand the importance of daily study habits, completing homework assignments, and daily school attendance. Parents should work with their children for the goal of "perfect" school attendance and having all assignments turned in on time.
