Public Information - Press ReleaseRelease
Date: Immediate Help Locate Handicapped Children
Do you know of a child with special needs who is not
receiving educational services? The Garden Grove Unified School District
is committed to identifying, locating, and assessing individuals ages
from birth through 21 years residing within the district who may be
in need of special education programs or services. This includes students
enrolled in public, private, and parochial schools. Eligible disabilities include, but are not limited to
hearing and/or vision impairment, physical handicap, mental retardation,
orthopedic impairment, emotional disturbance, learning disability, speech
and language impairment, and traumatic brain injury. According to federal law, an appropriate public education
will be available to all individuals with disabilities regardless of
severity. These services are provided based on the individual needs
of the person and the recommendation of the Individualized Education
Program (IEP) Team. The delivery of special education in GGUSD schools is described in the district's Local Plan for Special Education. Information regarding special education programs is available by calling the school district at (714) 663-6233. The Garden Grove Unified School District serves most of Garden Grove and portions of Santa Ana, Anaheim, Cypress, Stanton, Westminster, and Fountain Valley. PR #274
