Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources
Program Overview
The high school health graduation requirement is 2 1/2 credits or one quarter.
The health course provides instruction in significant health issues as delineated in State Education Code 51202. These health issues include personal and public safety, accident prevention, emergency first aid instruction, fire prevention, violence as a public health issue, sexually transmitted infections, and the effects of alcohol, drugs and tobacco upon the body. The goal of the course is to teach students to make responsible choices regarding their personal health and to increase their awareness of how these choices affect the health and lives of others.
Textbooks and Technology
The GGUSD Board of Education, in the spring of 2008, adopted Health, Prentice Hall for the high school health program. The website, www.phschool.com/atschool, is a gateway to articles, activities and other resources that support the textbook and provide the opportunity for further study and research.
