Welcome Crosby Students and Parents!

Welcome to Genevieve M. Crosby Elementary School! Our staff proudly serves it’s kindergarten through sixth grade students a rigorous academic program that is based on state standards and current research. Our dedicated staff of highly trained teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff, coupled with supportive parents and community members, creates a learning environment that is student centered and geared towards academic success for our student population whose diversity we celebrate.

Crosby’s fully credentialed teaching and support staff believes that all children can learn and our goal is to provide students with the skills, tools, and training to help them successfully achieve their greatest academic height each year. Our base program provides a comprehensive curriculum and our textbooks are state standards approved. Our electronic report cards are standards-based; reflecting identified essential standards for each grade level. Our District Parent Handbook and Crosby Rules Handbook provide our parents and students with the rules and guidelines to ensure a successful school year. A comprehensive Teacher Handbook provides pacing and assessment recommendations for each subject, focusing on standards and skills for each grade level. Frequent benchmark assessments are used to guide instruction to meet each child’s individual need in our results oriented school. This evaluation system includes state, district, publisher, classroom assessments, and teacher observation. Data analysis helps guide our instructional focus and targeted intervention for students at risk. Our current identified focus areas are reading comprehension and math application skills. Strategies to meet these challenges include school wide Staff Development for implementation of Math Delivery Model, Direct Instruction, Universal Access, English Language Development, Differentiated Instruction, and Thinking Maps, as well as targeted intervention and support for at-risk students.

Students grow academically and socially through enrichment and intervention programs. Participation in enrichment opportunities include: chorus, band, themed assemblies, Track and Field Day; Student Council, award assemblies, and Noon Time Sports. Intervention strategies include: paraprofessional assistance; Extended Day and Extended Year Programs; modified instruction; Student Study Team (SST); in class and pull out intervention; Special Education; and researched based successful teaching strategies. Technological support is provided by having a computer lab and equipping each classroom with internet access computers.

Parents have the opportunity to become involved through our PTA, School Site Council, English Language Advisory Committee, or coming in to volunteer in the office and classrooms. Parents also participate in our Family Nights and attend our 10 Educational Commandments for Parents program. Home school communication is facilitated through our bi-monthly newsletter sent home in English and Spanish.

Crosby is a successful school because we work together. Parents send your children to school well rested, fed, and their homework checked. Our staff is highly qualified, caring, and student focused. Our students work hard, participate in school programs, and always try their best. This is our winning formula for student success!

Thank you for your support and I look forward to working with you in the upcoming year!

Sincerely,

Don Terreri, Principal
