Presidents Message:
We have been talking to many of you every chance we get Š there is a series of most commonly asked questions and I would like to share them with you now.
1) What does the PTA do??
Great question Š we provide support for our students, staff and principal by means of enriching your students learning experiences. Examples, PTA pays for programs such as Art Masters, every field trip taken along with the transportation fees, Assemblies (last year the Japanese Tae-Ko drummers came). Everything PTA does benefits every student. From time to time we are made aware of a special need for the school, and we do whatever we can to gift these items. We have purchased reprographic equipment for the staff lounge, items for the classrooms and books for classrooms and the library.
2) What does PTA membership REALLY mean?
It means being involved in your childÕs education process. It means letting Congress know that you are concerned about our children and their experience in school. There is power in volume, and the more members we have, the bigger voice we have. If you can come to the 3 Association meetings we have each year thatÕs even better! During these meetings we address any issues that arise above and beyond our Executive Board meetings. Topics discussed at these meetings include: concerns, outreach efforts, proposals for new services. To make any decisions requires a quorum in attendance.
3) Does what I think really matter?
You bet it does! We just recently sent out a school-wide survey asking for your opinions. Based on your input, we have planned family night activities to coincide with our Association Meetings, so that everyone can come and even have a little bit of fun while we take care of business.
This yearÕs events are based on your input! To date, you have chosen to have Bubble-Mania and Aquarium of the PacificÕs Aquarium on Wheels. The third even is still being decided.
4) I want to be involved, but I donÕt have a lot of time and am afraid to commit.
Being a PTA member does NOT mean that you have to volunteer a certain amount of time. While of course, we will take all the volunteers we can get Š we certainly recognize that many of our parents are working and donÕt have time off to spare.
5) I CAN volunteer Š how do I get involved?
We have many volunteer opportunities within the day to day operations of PTA, but there are also volunteer needs within the individual classrooms. The teachers bring to our attention those needs, and we will do our best to coordinate with them. If you are ready to volunteer, just let us know and weÕll do our best to get you involved as much as you want to be!
I hope this answers many of your questions Š but in case you have more, you are welcome to contact me at (714) 813-2214 or via email at ethanallenpta@gmail.com.
Our communication door is always open and weÕre eager to hear your thoughts, comments and even concerns.
